You do not need to sign up, just show up if you feel like enjoying a couple of minutes of soccer and sun in the afternoon!

GENTLE(!) scenic biking tour around Santa Barbara downtown Saturday, October 19th

For our social outing this weekend, I would like to invite you for a gentle, scenic, and enjoyable bike tour of Santa Barbara downtown. I guess many of you have already seen a glimpse of the city, with its beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. But Santa Barbara has many historical landmarks, museums, and arts venues that you may not be aware of. I have planned a bike tour of the city that will introduce you to all the main sites of the city.

Meet: Right in front of Wheel Fun Rentals of Santa Barbara at 22 State Street, Santa Barbara, at 1PM.

The plan is to rent bikes there and go on the self-guided tour. (The route map is given here). If you already have a bike, feel free to bring your own and there is no need to rent.

The tour should not take more than 2 hours.

Please sign up below by Friday October 18th midnight specifying if you have or need transportation to the rental place:

Hiking up the 7 Falls Trail! Saturday, October 12th

SEE PHOTOS FROM OUR HIKE:
Jiang's photos
Gerrit's photos (including some photos from the "romantic" walk and dinner on October 5th)

Tips for the hike: Since the hike will take a few hours, I would suggest everyone to bring something to eat during the hike. Also just in case there is water along the hike path and you slip into it, a change of clothes is also recommended.

For our inaugural hike, I am organizing a hike up the 7 Falls Trail for this Saturday. The trail information can be found here.

For driving directions from the KITP to the trailhead, click here.

Meet: 10:00am at the KITP entrance with the circular parking ring in front.

Note: The hike (trailhead to the 7 Falls and back) is about 3 miles long (may take about 2.5 hours), and it seems to involve some rock-climbing, sliding down rocks, and river straddling; you may also get wet so be prepared :). If time and energy permits, we can go beyond the 7 Falls up to the 3 Pools.

Please sign up below by Friday October 11th midnight specifying if you have or need transportation:

Mircea - sorry guys, but I think I will skip this one, too tired from biking everyday
Scott - can't make the hike, but can provide rides if necessary (call me at (303) 829-3475 )
So - biking (meet you at the trailhead)
Jiang - waiting at KITP, need transportation to the trailhead
Ke - waiting at KITP, need transportation to the trailhead
Peng - wait at KITP and need transportation to the trailhead
Gerrit - room for 4 in car
Yaroslav (+ Iryna and Yana) - with 1 or 2 cars (up to 7 extra passengers)

Update on the dinner!

Due to the large number of people that signed in for the dinner we need to shift the meeting time to 7 pm. The restaurant can accommodate all of us (16-17 in total) only at 7:30, so I would like to suggest that we meet at 7 pm instead of 6:30 pm at KITP and walk there. Sorry for the inconvenience and please let me know if you have any questions!

Next group dinner: Thursday October 10th
Beachside Bar & Cafe at 7:00 pm, down the hill from KITP overlooking Goleta beach.
We will meet at 6 pm in the Kohn Hall (right by the Ulysses sand installation) and walk from there to the restaurant.
